Following on from last week’s ‘How to use Calendar to view significant dates in history’ blog, and with the imminent release of the new Lord of the Rings movie ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, I thought it would be worth pointing out that your OS X’s Unix architecture has a FreeBSD calendar hidden within it that chronicles the Lord of the Rings saga!
How cool is that? (Or perhaps you’re just not as geeky as me!)
To access this timeline, just follow the same steps as my previous blog to access the calendar files but append ‘lotr’ to the end as follows :
Step 1.
Open a terminal window. (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
Step 2.
Enter the following exactly as printed, (copy and paste if possible!):
cat /usr/share/calendar/calendar.lotr
Step 3.
Swot up on your Lord of the Rings trivia!
