Disable Photos AutoLaunch with camera devices with a profile

Hi All. You guessed it, it’s another customer request blog 😛
This time I had an education customer request that we disable Photos AutoLaunch when you connect an SD card to a Mac. This allowed the user to launch the application of their choosing without having to quit Photos first.

Profile to the rescue!

After a little bit of digging, I managed to build a profile that will turn off the default setting to ‘Auto Launch Photos, when a Camera device is connected’, found in Photos when you connect a device. Fun Fact: When using the GUI this setting is per device, unlike the profile I’ve built!

The profile can be found on our Amsys profile GitHub Repo and has been tested on 10.11.x so make sure to test in your environment!

Word of warning

This is a ‘forced’ profile and so a user will not be able to disable this setting.

Summary

Another short and sweet blog for today. As always, if you have any questions, queries or comments, let us know below (or @daz_wallace on Mac Admins Slack) and I’ll try to respond to and delve into as many as I can.
